Financial Aid & Scholarships

Learn about the difference between each form of aid and how to apply for financial aid and scholarships.

Investing in your future

We believe everyone should have the opportunity to attend a private, liberal arts university. That’s why we give out $10 million a year in scholarships. Plus, 100% of our full-time undergraduate students receive some type of financial aid. You read that right, not one of these students pay full tuition.

Our team goes above and beyond to ensure you both understand financial aid and can make the most of your financial aid package. When we say we’ll walk you through the process of applying for and managing your aid, we mean it. Contact our Financial Aid Office to get started.

Different Forms of Financial Aid

Financial aid—aka money that helps you pay for college—is broken down into five different categories at UJ. Although each form achieves the same goal, they’re very different. <Our team> can help you navigate the different forms of financial aid available to you and maximize what you can receive.

  1. Scholarships

Think of scholarships as free money to pay for school. They are generally awarded based on merit or special qualifications (your GPA, a talent, your interest in a field of study), and they don’t need to be paid back. UJ alone gives out $8,000 minimum to each full-time undergraduate student.

2. Grants

Like scholarships, grants don’t need to be repaid. Unlike scholarships, they are based on financial need —not merit— and are typically awarded by the federal and state government.

3. Loans

With loans, you borrow money from the government or private lenders. That means, these need to be repaid, often with interest.

4. Work-Study

The Work-Study program offers flexible, part-time jobs that are designed to help you earn money to pay for school.

5. Military Benefits

This type of financial assistance is reserved for individuals who are currently serving or have served in the military, as well as their family members.
