Faculty

The Department of English at the University of Jamestown invites applications for Assistant Professor of English beginning August 2024. This is a permanent, full-time position (UJ does not have tenure system). This is a new position created in response to UJ’s new partnership with Chandigarh University in India and an anticipated enrollment increase in international students from that university. Applicants with experience working with international students and academic writing from southeast Asia are encouraged to highlight those experiences. The candidate will teach three courses per semester for the English department and work 10 hours/week as a professional tutor in the Writing Center.

Minimum requirements:

  • Master’s degree in English or related field
  • Demonstrable experience working with international and/or multilingual students

Preferred requirements:

  • PhD in Rhetoric and Composition.
  • Experience teaching STEM writing and/or Writing Center experience.
  • TESOL/TOEFL experience.

Teaching responsibilities will include introductory and advanced composition classes. Preferred candidates will have experience teaching business writing and/or technical writing. Writing Center duties will include tutoring, especially ESL support.

The University of Jamestown’s Department of Clinical Counseling and Behavioral Health seeks an Assistant Director of Behavioral Health at the Instructor or Assistant Professor rank within the department. This is a full-time, online teaching and administrative position that will have face-to-face requirements (e.g., teaching in person one week per year, networking or meetings in person may be required). This faculty member will work with students completing a Bachelor of Arts in Behavioral Health, as well as a Master of Science in Clinical Counseling. Re-location is not necessary but traveling to campus and working in North Dakota is required several times per year.

Job Duties include:

o Full-time teaching responsibilities (30 credit hours during the academic year) with online, asynchronous courses as well as onsite one week per summer;

o Assist in coordinating and teaching COUN 510: Counseling Techniques or COUN 520: Group Counseling face-to-face during the on-campus week in Jamestown every summer (usually in late June);

o Monitor student progress on degree completion and serve as academic advisor for Behavioral Health students;

o Develop a process for maintaining regular contact with students including regular office hour availability;

o Engage in remediation or problem-solving strategies if issues arise with student performance;

o Address all student issues in a professional and timely manner, and in accordance with institutional and accreditation policies and procedures;

o Administrative responsibilities involve working with director to identify department needs and implementing changes;

o Assist the Program Director in establishing goals, setting targets/benchmarks, and regularly assessing program and learning outcomes within the context of continuous program improvement;

o Assist Program Director and Assistant Director of Clinical Training in program accreditation process as well as potential development of a student-run clinic;

o May be required to supervise students in a clinical capacity during Practicum or Internship;

o Network across the state of ND, AZ, and potentially other states, as needed, with the goal of growing the programs;

o Maintain licensure, membership in professional counseling organizations, and/or appropriate professional development, including being familiar with emerging issues in counseling;

o Maintain involvement in the counseling field by actively providing counseling, supervision, research and scholarship, and/or leadership and advocacy;

o Serve on university committees;

o Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work remotely;

o Ability to have flexibility with schedule (will need to work some evenings or weekends);

Minimum Qualifications:

o Completed Doctoral degree in Counseling Education and Supervision (CES) and currently independently licensed or license eligible to practice counseling (LPCC) in ND.

o Minimum 5 years of full-time clinical experience

The University of Jamestown’s Unruh School of Character in Leadership invites applications for an open-rank faculty position of non-traditional leadership education.

In May 2023, the University of Jamestown received a gift of $15 million from Jim (‘63) and Candy Unruh, the largest in our history, for the creation of the Unruh School of Character in Leadership and the renovation of the University’s chapel, establishing a new Center for Faith and Life. Staff

The University of Jamestown (NAIA) is accepting applications for two Assistant Athletic Trainers. This is a full-time 10-month position, with full benefit package.  Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The selected candidates will conduct themselves within the ideals, goals, rules and regulations set forth by University of Jamestown, the NATA, NAIA and Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC).  The successful candidate will embrace and promote the mission of the University of Jamestown.

The Assistant Athletic Trainer reports to the Athletic Director and Head Athletic Trainer.  The successful candidates are responsible for assisting in the management and care of athletic teams at the University of Jamestown, which is a member of the Great Plains Athletic Conference. The successful candidates will assist with the supervision and coverage of 23 varsity and junior varsity sports.  The candidates must demonstrate the ability and knowledge of injury prevention programs, injury evaluation, injury treatment, and rehabilitation of student athletes.

Successful candidates will have home game coverage, practice coverage, maintaining of medical records, and away travel considerations (10%) with assigned teams as necessary.

Residence Life Graduate Assistant:
UJ Residence Life fosters engaging communities where students have the opportunity to live, learn,
and thrive. We foster these communities by challenging students to look inward, outward, beyond,
and forward. The main responsibility of the Resident Director is to supervise the undergraduate
Resident Assistants (RAs). The Resident Director is responsible for the RAs leadership
development, with the guidance of the Director and Associate Director. The Resident Director
position is also responsible for the general health and safety along with the day-to-day operations
of the building they have been assigned to. This position is a live on position. This position may
include summer working hours that are flexible for planning and preparing for move in days.

The University of Jamestown seeks a head coach for the men’s wrestling team. The Jimmies currently compete in the NAIA as part of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. Starting in 2025-26, we will be part of NCAA Division II competing in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

Duties include:

  • Wrestler Development – provide coaching skills to individuals and team. Focus on improving skills, abilities, and performance.
  • Recruitment – recruit high quality students and athletes that align with the university’s mission and values.
  • Team Management – strategize team operations, practices, game planning, travel, scheduling, etc.
  • Game Strategy – adapting to opponents and situations. Make critical decisions during competition. Maximize the team’s chances of success.

The University of Jamestown seeks a Stewardship Manager to support the Office of Development and Alumni Relations. This is a part-time position, 20-30 hours per week. Successful candidate will act as the primary point of contact for fundraisers and development personnel.

Duties include:

Graduate Assistant

The University of Jamestown (NAIA), located in Jamestown, ND, is seeking applications for two Sports Information Graduate Assistants.
A graduate assistant position at the University of Jamestown offers the successful applicant a path towards a professional career.

The successful candidate will assist the Sports Information Director in all facets of the sports information office. They will assist with game management, including in-game stat keeping using DakStats software, coordinating webcasts of home events using Production Truck/Wirecast software, and other game day duties as assigned.

They will assist the SID with website management, including game stories and sport program updates.  They will also promote University of Jamestown student-athletes and coaches across traditional and emerging media communication vehicles.  A successful candidate will be able to help with the design and layout of several publications, historical research and accurate archiving of athletic records, and building photographical databases.

The Graduate Assistant will serve as in-house sports information representative when the SID is on the road with UJ teams. The Graduate Assistant may be required to travel with teams on certain occasions.

Requirements include: a familiarity with college sports, strong grasp of English language and ability to write coherent press releases and sports stories, and the willingness to learn on the fly. The successful applicant must be available for the majority of fall, winter, and spring; including evenings and weekends.

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and must be accepted into University of Jamestown graduate school. Applicants should have strong oral and written communication skills. Previous experience with Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, DakStats, and Microsoft Office software is a plus. This position reports to the Director of Club Sports / Head Coach.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: recruiting, coaching, counseling, player development, monitoring academic progress, scouting, alumni events, fundraising events and other duties assigned by the head coach or club sports director.

Recruiting- includes travel, identification of potential student athletes, and phone calls to potential recruits. Will travel three to four times per year and depends on the recruiting class.

Coaching includes development in both clay target and archery, along with dynamic workouts to assist with simulated stress, and hand eye coordination. Traveling to all competitions and dealing with day-to-day events.

Office duties include setting up contests, hotel booking, putting travel itineraries together, and managing equipment duties.

Additional duties include intramural supervision, social media publications, and club sport promotion.

Residence Life Graduate Assistant:
UJ Residence Life fosters engaging communities where students have the opportunity to live, learn,
and thrive. We foster these communities by challenging students to look inward, outward, beyond,
and forward. The main responsibility of the Residence Life graduate assistance is enhancing
internal and external communication in the Residence Life OƯice. This is done by executing and
enhancing the Residence Life communication model, to include social media marketing. In
addition, the graduate assistant assists the Director, Associate Director, and other Graduate and
Undergraduate staƯ in executing this mission. This is done by providing phone support to
prospective and current students, answering general email inquiries, tracking, and managing
occupancy, completing day-to-day tasks, distributing student identification cards, planning, and
coordination, and more. Please note that this position requires a minimum of 20 oƯice hours per
week.

Resident Director:
The Residence Life Graduate Assistant is required to be a Resident Director in an open residence
hall or series of residence halls, given the position. The resident Director supervises the
undergraduate Resident Assistants and is responsible for their leadership development, with the
guidance of the Director and Associate Director. The Resident Director position is also responsible
for the general health and safety along with the day-to-day operations of the building they have
been assigned to. This position is a live on position.

Position Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will assist the Director of Institutional Effectiveness with institutional activities related to assessment, accreditation, data analysis, and reporting. These tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining institutional assessment software
  • Exporting assessment data and formatting reports
  • Coordinating assessment day activities
  • Organizing assessment records
  • Promoting assessment activities such as institutional surveys
  • Supporting continuous improvement efforts across the university
  • Other clerical duties as needed

The University of Jamestown seeks a Graduate Assistant Coach for the Men’s Wrestling program beginning in the Fall of 2024.  The candidate must have strong communication and organizational skills along with the ability to show mature and responsible leadership and work well in a team environment.

 Qualifications

  • Must be accepted as a full-time, degree-seeking student in the UJ Master of Arts in Leadership graduate program including having completed a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the mission of the University of Jamestown.
  • Demonstrate ability to be self-motivated, self-reflective, and to conduct oneself in an ethical and professional manner.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Wrestling experience as a collegiate student-athlete and/or experience coaching is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain a commercial driver’s license endorsement to assist with team travel.

 Duties Include

  • Practice: Assist in organization, scheduling, and running practices.
  • Communication: Manage team social media and external communication.
  • Recruiting: Identify and communicate with prospects, travel to competitions, conduct campus visits.
  • Fundraising: Assist in team events to grow knowledge of, and support for, the program.
  • Coaching: Assist with individual and team practices, competitions, and team functions.
  • Other duties include assisting with scheduling, academic support, strength and conditioning, and more.

Terms of Employment

  • Two-year consecutive commitment running August 1 – May 31 of 2024 & 2025.
  • Must maintain passing grades in enrolled Master of Arts in Leadership coursework.
