Research and InSPIRE

Empowering Discovery. Advancing Opportunity.

At the University of Jamestown, we believe that learning goes beyond the classroom. The Dr. Jo-Ida C. Hansen Institute of Sponsored Programs, Innovation, and Research Excellence (InSPIRE) is our commitment to helping students and faculty turn curiosity into impact—on campus, in our communities, and across industries.

What is InSPIRE?
InSPIRE is a new institute made possible by a generous $7 million gift from Dr. Jo-Ida C. Hansen, a leader in research and a champion for student opportunity. As part of our Together We Rise strategic plan, InSPIRE supports research for all Jimmies—from student projects to faculty-driven scholarship.

Jimmie Voices

"I know first hand the importance of institutional support for research. Research was at the core of my professional life as a professor. My first research experience was participating in junior and senior high school science fairs. I even had the honor of going to the National Science Fair as a representative of North Dakota. I hope, as intended, that the Research Institute helps faculty and students to have enhanced research opportunities."

Learning that goes further.

InSPIRE builds on UJ’s tradition of excellent teaching by integrating hands-on research into a well-rounded education—preparing students for what’s next, no matter their major. As research experience becomes increasingly valued by employers and graduate schools, InSPIRE ensures every Jimmie has the opportunity to stand out.

InSPIRE will be implemented in phases, beginning with a public announcement on January 30, 2026, followed by a planning year launching July 1, 2026, and culminating in full campus-wide access on July 1, 2027.
