Academic Support

Discover a range of resources that we offer to help you succeed in your area of academic study. All services are available to every member of the UJ community.

Your success is our priority.

Yes, we expect the best from our students. But we also know adjusting to the demands of college and graduate study can be hard. New classes. New expectations. Newfound independence.

The only way to ensure our students are successful is to empower them with unmatched support services. That’s why we are with you—from your first class until you walk across the stage at graduation. You’ll have access to a range of tools and resources, designed to help you succeed. And if you start to slip, you’ll hear from us. Because at UJ, falling through the cracks is never an option.

Academic Services

The Student Success Center, located in Raugust Library, offers the following services—available both in-person and virtually—to help undergraduate and graduate students find academic success:

Academic Advising

Each student is assigned a faculty advisor from day one. Their job is to answer any questions you have about your academic program and help you plan your courses each semester. Additional advising services include:

  • Evaluating your majors/minors
  • Outlining your provisional schedule prior to meeting with your advisor
  • Explaining general education and specific major/minor requirements

Writing Center

This free resource aims to empower better writers, create confidence, critical thinking, realistic goals, and an appreciation for the writing process. The Writing Center helps with any and all types of writing—from personal statements to APA-style research papers.

 Study Groups and Tutoring

We offer several study sessions each semester, as well as one-on-one tutoring—all available at no cost to our students.

 UJ Foundations

This one-credit course helps first-year students make a positive transition to UJ. Students participate in meaningful discussions, personal reflection, career planning, and engaging activities within and outside of the classroom to learn more about themselves, others, UJ and the Jamestown community. All with the goal of adjusting to academic and student life.

Sections are kept small and made up of welcome week groups to encourage relationship building. Each class also has a sophomore peer leader. Review the academic catalog for more information.

Disability Services

University of Jamestown is committed to granting reasonable accommodations to its rules, policies, practices, or services when necessary for people with disabilities. Learn more about our disability services and processes.

WeCare

WeCare is an early academic warning system for coaches, parents, professors and students to use. If you believe that a student is struggling or at risk of leaving the University of Jamestown, please complete a WeCare Report. Our Director of Retention will assess student needs to create a plan of action to help them succeed.
