SHOULD I USE THE UJ-GUEST WIFI OR UJ-WIRELESS WIFI NETWORK?

If you are a guest of the University of Jamestown, please connect to the UJ-Guest network. Upon connecting, open up a web browser and you will be taken to a portal sign-in page. Here, you can either use temporary UJ credentials or a personal email address to get connected to the network. If you are a student, staff, or faculty member, please use the UJ-Wireless network. Upon connecting, you will be prompted for a username and password. This username and password are your UJ credentials.

CAN I USE A PERSONAL ROUTER ON CAMPUS?

No, personal routers are not allowed to use unless you are using them as a network switch. This means that you must turn off the SSID and plug the Ethernet cable into the WAN/Internet port on the router. If you need assistance with configuring these settings, please reach out to the Helpdesk. Failure to adhere to these rules will result in deactivation of internet ports in your room.

WHY CAN I CONNECT TO EVERY INTERNET SITE EXCEPT MYUJ?

This can be caused by multiple things, but the most common cause is malware that has infiltrated the computer and changed some DNS settings. Another known cause is AVG Antivirus Secure DNS. If you suspect either of these known problems are the cause, stop by the Helpdesk for assistance.

HOW DO I CONNECT MY SMART DEVICE (XBOX, PLAYSTATION, ROKU, ECHO, CHROMECAST, SMART TV, ETC.) THAT ASKS FOR JUST A PASSWORD INSTEAD OF A USERNAME AND PASSWORD?

Register Your Device

After you register your device, we will review and verify your submission and email you a secure password to the UJ-SmartDevices WiFi network.

WHY CAN’T I CONNECT TO XBOX LIVE FROM MY ROOM?

The college cannot guarantee that your Xbox will connect to Xbox live because of the lack of UPnP technology on our network. UPnP is disabled because of inherent security risks, but we have had limited success using a personal router instead of directly connecting to the college network. If you plan to do this, please follow the above guidelines under the question “Can I use a personal router on campus?” The Helpdesk cannot support any request to connect to Xbox live.

HOW DO I CONNECT MY ANDROID PHONE TO THE WIFI?
  • Settings to connect Android phones to UJ-Wireless WiFi
  • EAP method – PEAP
  • CA certificate – Don’t validate
  • Identity – UJ username (firstname.lastname)
  • Password – UJ password
