UJ Launches Pathologists’ Assistant Master’s Program in Phoenix
PHOENIX, Arizona — The University of Jamestown is proud to announce the launch of its highly anticipated Pathologists’ Assistant Master’s program, an initiative designed to prepare students for impactful careers in surgical and autopsy pathology.
This program, now accepting applications for its inaugural cohort starting January 2026, is among the most comprehensive of its kind in the United States.
With the healthcare industry facing a critical shortage of highly trained pathology professionals, graduates will receive the knowledge, technical skills, and professional values needed to thrive in one of the fastest-growing sectors of healthcare.
“This program is more than just a degree,” said Cheryl Germain, Program Director and a nationally recognized leader in pathology education. “We are preparing students who not only excel in their technical training but also embody values of compassion, professionalism, and service.”
Germain’s expertise in pathology education is extensive. A recipient of the prestigious American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Mastership Award, Germain brings over 18 years of experience in program development at major academic medical schools. Her leadership has been instrumental in shaping the University of Jamestown’s vision for excellence in health sciences education.
Located in Phoenix, the Pathologists’ Assistant Master’s program is a two-year, 84-credit curriculum that blends didactic education, hands-on laboratory training, and immersive clinical rotations. Students in the program will gain real-world experience at world-renowned academic medical centers, private labs, cancer centers, and community hospitals. The program distinguishes itself with the following key features: newly constructed facilities, including a new anatomy lab, classrooms, and student spaces, enthusiastic and engaged faculty, exciting clinical experiences in world-renowned sites.
Pathologists’ Assistants are in high demand across the healthcare industry, with opportunities for competitive salaries, career advancement, and meaningful contributions to patient care.
The University of Jamestown’s program is uniquely positioned to prepare graduates to meet this demand while shaping them into leaders in their field.
“Pathologists’ Assistants play a vital role in patient care, and our program stands out for its strong focus on technical training, career preparation, and holistic growth,” said Paul Olson, PhD, Executive Vice President of the University of Jamestown. “Our graduates will not only be skilled professionals but also compassionate individuals who bring kindness, integrity, and excellence to their work.”
As part of its broader commitment to addressing critical workforce shortages in healthcare in the country, the University of Jamestown created both an Associate of Science in Nursing and Direct-Entry Master of Science in Nursing degree program in Fargo, North Dakota, this past year and plans to expand its health sciences offerings in Phoenix in the coming year including a Master of Science in Medical Science and Master of Science in Computational Pathology and Digital Medicine.
