Meet Luke Zimmer – Giving Hearts Day
Why did you choose UJ?
I came to UJ because it was a place that I knew I would be able to branch out and have lots of opportunities for growth, and also get a quality education with small class sizes.
What are you involved with on campus and why?
Baseball, theater, Esports, student senate, welcome weekend and
choir. I’m incredibly passionate about all of the activities that I do at UJ, and while I originally came here to play baseball, I’m eternally grateful that UJ has so many opportunities so that I could do everything that I wanted to do outside of my sport.
Is there a particular person or event that stands out from your time at UJ?
My wife Gabi. We met in our freshman year dorm, and have now been married since August 2025. If it hadn’t been for UJ I never would have found my wife and so many other amazing people!
How have you been impacted by scholarship support?
I have been deeply effected by scholarships during my time at UJ. I was lucky enough to be awarded a full tuition scholarship before coming to UJ, and it has impacted my time here greatly. It was the sole reason I was able to attend the University of Jamestown. To those that make mine, and everyone else’s scholarships possible here at UJ, I thank you not only for funding the wonderful education I now have, but also the experiences that I will never forget, and the relationships that I formed that will never be broken. Thank you for giving me a spring board into the working world that I never would have been able to give myself.
Why should someone choose UJ to donate to for Giving Hearts Day?
The University of Jamestown is truly unique as a college experience within the Midwest. While our campus is 85 percent athletes, there are so many amazing opportunities, which fosters a great educational environment. One of the many slogans that I’ve taken away from UJ is “education is at the heart of everything we do”. From the residence halls, to the athletic department, to the classroom that statement rings true. UJ offers a college experience from which alumni are prepared for all aspects of life.
