Tutoring and Study Sessions

Find the schedule for group study sessions. Need one-on-one tutoring? Learn how to request an appointment.

The help you need to succeed.

Asking for help with a class is hard. The Student Success Center tries to make it easier by providing several group study sessions per semester. If you find that you need more one-on-one attention, tutoring sessions are also available.

Study Sessions

Study sessions are regularly scheduled group tutoring opportunities, led by a student tutor. Any students enrolled in the particular class are welcome to attend. You may attend as many sessions as you wish throughout the semester. Attendance varies week to week. An average session may have 3-5 students, but sessions before exams may have 15 or more.

Please come with questions about in-class concepts or parts of assignments with which you need assistance. No appointments are necessary. Come as you are to a scheduled group, and leave whenever you want—you are never required to stay for the full session.

Tutoring

In-person and virtual tutoring is available for students who need one-on-one help for a specific subject.  Tutors are students, just like you, who are available to share their expertise to help you in class.

Help is the key word here. Please remember, your tutor is not directly responsible for your grade. They will never do your homework, answer test questions, or write a paper. Instead, they offer assistance to help you better understand a topic.

Tutoring sessions are scheduled for approximately 50 minutes, once a week. Bring general questions about a topic or specific questions you have about your homework.

Tutoring Expectations

One-on-one guidance can be so helpful for a student. We politely request that you abide by the following expectations to help achieve the desired outcomes of a tutoring session:

  • Please respect your tutor’s time.

Arrive at your tutoring location at the agreed-on time. Please contact your tutor (as soon as possible) if you are going to be late or cannot make your appointment. If you miss two appointments in a row without notification, you will be dropped from the tutoring schedule.

  • Come to the tutoring session prepared.
Bring your homework, but be sure to do the work ahead of time to the best of your ability. And come prepared with questions.

After each session, peer tutors are asked to complete a report to evaluate your session.
