Nursing Program Sophomore Application

Prior to applying for acceptance into the nursing program students must first apply and be accepted to the University of Jamestown.

The process is open to students of sophomore or higher status.  Enrollment is limited.  The process gives University of Jamestown students priority over transfers. No candidate is excluded on the basis of race, national origin, ethnicity, disability, religion, gender, veteran status, or sexual orientation.

Acceptance in the nursing program may be rescinded at the discretion of the University of Jamestown based on the results of the criminal background check.

Criteria

Completion of all nursing prerequisites or their equivalents:  Psych 203, Nrsg 205, Biol 208 + lab, Biol 216 + lab, Soc 101 or Soc 230 with a grade of C- or above.  Biol 209 + lab may be taken before or concurrently with sophomore nursing courses and must also be passed with a grade of C- or above to continue in the program.  A student may petition to the nursing faculty for permission to take either Soc 101 or Soc 230 OR Psych 203 concurrently with their sophomore nursing courses in the spring.  This course must also be passed with a grade of C- or above to continue in the program.  Students who receive a grade lower than a C- in any one of the prerequisites or corequisite courses listed above must repeat that course and receive a grade of C- or above to either qualify or continue in the program.  Students who receive a grade lower than C- in more than one pre/corequisite course will not be eligible for application or continuation in the program.  Prerequisites cannot be fulfilled via CLEP or PEP.

All transcripts of credit transfers from other colleges and universities must be in the Registrar’s office before entrance into the nursing program.

Cumulative grade point average must be 3.2 or higher.

If a student’s CGPA does not meet the 3.2 requirement but meets ALL other admission requirements, and the student’s CGPA is at or above 2.85 (no rounding will be applied), the student may take the TEAS (Version 7.0).  If the student scores 70% or above (no rounding will be applied), the student will be considered qualified for admission.  The student will be allowed a maximum of 3 attempts on the TEAS.  It is the responsibility of the student to register, schedule and pay for the TEAS exam using the link below.  When registering for the TEAS choose “Remote Online” and then choose “ATI Remote Proctor-Nursing” in order for the student to take the exam on their own through the ATI system.  The last date to complete the TEAS will be one week prior to the start of the spring semester.  Once the student completes the exam they must share the score with the University of Jamestown by logging into their student ATI account and clicking “Send Transcript.”  Link to ATI TEAS exam registration: https://atitesting.com/teas
