About

Get a glimpse into what makes UJ a “Best in the Midwest University” according to US News and World Report.

Small University. Big Thinkers.

University of Jamestown is more than a private, liberal arts University. We are a community dedicated to the development of students—who they are. Who they want to be. And how they can make a difference in their future careers.

UJ is constantly growing and expanding, while staying true to our Christian roots. We care for our students like family. And believe their success can only be found by pursuing new and innovative approaches to education.

UJ at a glance

Our main campus is located in Jamestown, ND, with additional campuses in Fargo and Phoenix, AZ.  We offer undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs—all taught by faculty who are committed to helping students succeed. You even get a dedicated faculty advisor from day one.

If you can’t already tell, students are our number one priority. Every decision we make is in support of them and our mission.

Mission & History

We know numbers aren’t everything, but we’re still pretty proud of ours.

  • 1,100 students enrolled, from more than 30 states and 15 countries
  • 40+ areas of study
  • Average class size: 19
  • 20 varsity sports
  • 23 organizations

Every student can achieve success. We help them do it.

Yes, we have high expectations for our students, but we also expect them to have fun while they learn. Majority of our students are involved in multiple activities, including athletics, performing arts, and clubs and organizations. That’s a major perk of a small college. You create the experience you want. We help you achieve the outcomes.

“Our students are first and foremost here. And our faculty want to get to know them both as students and as people.”
– Dr. Polly Peterson, UJ President
