Exploring a New Path in Healthcare: Why the MSMS at UJ Accelerated Could Be Your Next Big Move
Have you ever caught yourself daydreaming about a new direction? Maybe you feel a tug that you’re meant for more than your current role, or that your true passion lies in healthcare, research, or the fast-changing world of medical science. If that resonates, let me assure you: you’re not alone. In fact, students like you are exactly who inspire me most as an educator and mentor.
My Journey: From Research to the Clinic—and Why I Believe in MSMS
I want to share why I’m so passionate about the online Master of Science in Medical Sciences (MSMS) at University of Jamestown Accelerated, and why I believe it could be the turning point you’ve been seeking—whether you’re a career changer, a recent graduate, or a working professional ready for your next challenge.

A little about my own path. I earned my PhD first, but a few years later, I realized I wanted to make a more direct impact in medicine. That meant going back to school when most people are well into their careers. I joined a post-baccalaureate program at Northeast Ohio Medical University—a program a lot like the MSMS. Today, I still maintain an active clinical and surgical practice in Cleveland, Ohio, but I wouldn’t be here without that post-bacc experience.
That program served as my “accelerated pre-med”—almost like a second bachelor’s degree. It gave me the coursework and preparation I needed to apply to medical school, but even more importantly, it helped me connect my research background with the hands-on world of patient care. I wanted to take what I’d learned in the lab and bring it to the bedside—to blend research insights with the day-to-day challenges and rewards of clinical medicine.
That’s why developing the MSMS at UJ means so much to me. This program makes it possible for people to pivot, deepen, and broaden their careers, no matter where they started or how winding their path has been. For me, it’s been a chance to bring together the two worlds I care about deeply—and to keep growing as both a scientist and a physician.
What Sets Our Program Apart?

Where Can This Degree Take You?
The possibilities are as exciting and varied as our students! Here’s where you might go after earning your MSMS:
- Professional School Admissions: Our curriculum mirrors the rigor of your first year in medical school, giving you the preparation and confidence to stand out in MD, DO, PA, dental, or other health program applications.
- Research & Biotech: Step into roles like clinical research coordinator, biomedical lab analyst, or research assistant—putting you on the frontlines of discovery and innovation.
- Healthcare Policy & Administration: Use your knowledge in roles that shape the systems and ethics that impact patient care every day.
- Digital Health & Medical Science Liaison: Bridge the gap between clinical practice and technology, helping redefine the future of medicine.
What to Expect: Inside the MSMS Curriculum
The MSMS is a one-year, 36-credit program, intentionally aligned with the timeline of medical and professional schools (kicking off every July 1). You’ll start with foundational courses in human physiology and anatomy, then advance into in-depth biomedical coursework—cell biology, disease mechanisms, diagnostics, and more. You’ll see how this knowledge translates directly into clinical contexts. But it’s not just about academics. We provide comprehensive training in professional and ethical practices so you’re prepared not only for the classroom, but for the responsibilities that come with working in healthcare and biomedical sciences. And you’ll have the chance to personalize your experience with a capstone project that’s tailored to your own interests and goals.
