Charles Sizer was recently inducted into the South Dakota Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Hall of Fame during the Spring Athletic Director’s Conference in Deadwood, SD.

Candidates are considered through three criteria, national, state and local involvement. Individuals are chosen who have volunteered time to promote the belief and purpose of the SDIAAA and who have promoted the importance of athletics and sportsmanship within their school and community.

Sizer is a 1969 graduate of Ellendale (N.D.) High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from University of Jamestown in 1973.

From 1975-1978, he was a teacher and head boys basketball and assistant football coach in Herried, SD. In 1978, Sizer began a 35-year career as a teacher, head girls basketball and golf and assistant football and boys basketball coach in Miller, SD.

Sizer served as athletics director in Miller for 21 years; retiring in 2013. He chaired numerous SDHSAA sub state tournaments for boys and girls basketball, wrestling, volleyball, golf and track and field, and served on several committees. He was also instrumental in starting an initiative to collect unused medals from South Dakota schools to donate to South Dakota Special Olympics.

Sizer was recognized as SDIAAA Region Athletics Director of the Year on three occasions — 1997, 2003 and 2008.
