Seibold Faculty Development Funds Application

  • Grant Proposal Information and Guidelines for Faculty
    (rev. Sept. 2023)
The Seibold Faculty Development Endowment has been established to assist individual members of the faculty in attaining their professional development goals, whether discipline-specific or related to excellence in classroom teaching, and consistent with the mission of University of Jamestown.

Grants will be available to complement existing individual institutional funds for faculty development. $6000 is available for the 2023-2024 year. Applications submitted will be reviewed by the five-member review committee, which will make awards. Applications will be judged on their perceived merits to promote the applicant’s professional abilities within his or her discipline or in teaching. Individuals may make repeated applications and receive repeated funding; however, it is intended that meaningful support be given to as many faculty as possible who submit qualified proposals.

Types of Activities Potentially Funded (exemplary rather than exhaustive, not prioritized):
    • Professional conferences, workshops, seminars (presentation or attendance)
    • Faculty research and faculty-student research
    • Advanced degree assistance (e.g., tuition, fees, travel)
    • Materials (e.g., books, software, equipment, expendables) directly related to the activities listed above
    • Other

    Evaluation Criteria:

Strict numerical guidelines of evaluation do not exist. Evaluation of proposals will be based on the Committee’s perception of the value of the experience to the individual and to the institution, other funding sources available and utilized, and the number and quality of competing proposals. It is important that the applicant make a lucid, strong rationale for the value of the experience. In general, experiences demonstrating higher professional quality involving more prominent venues will be preferred.

There will be one on-going funding period for this academic year. The final deadline for receipt of applications is February 16, 2024. However, applications may be submitted at any time and will be reviewed periodically. The first application review will be during the week of November 13th, 2023. An initial dispersal of funds will take place following that review. Review of applications and funding of activities will continue until the February deadline or until all funds have been dispersed. All funds for the 2023-2024 academic year must be dispersed by fiscal year end - June 30, 2024.

All award recipients will submit receipts to the chair of the Seibold Committee who will then submit them to the business office for reimbursement.
