I was born, raised, and went to school in California. I earned my Ph.D. in organic chemistry and did post-doctoral research in toxicology at the University of Kentucky. I began my teaching career at the University of Minnesota, Morris (1995-98) and arrived at Jamestown in Fall 1998.
My Favorite Course to Teach
I have been asked once before what my favorite topic to teach in organic chemistry was and time ran out on me before I could answer the question. I was hired to be the steward of organic chemistry, but I knew that I’d also be teaching organic labs, biochemistry, and nursing chemistry; and that was just my first semester upon arriving! What was I thinking back in 1998? No, just kidding.
There have been multiple opportunities to develop new courses over the years which has led to offering courses in toxicology, food chemistry, wine chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and survey of organic chemistry for environmental science.
