John Mazur – New Shooting Sports Coach at UJ

John Mazur

John Mazur has been named head coach for the University of Jamestown shooting sports and will also serve as Club Sports Program Manager.

Mazur currently works for the North Dakota Game and Fish Department as the Hunter Education/Bow Hunter Education supervisor and is also an officer in the North Dakota Army National Guard. Most recently, Mazur has worked at the state level, promoting shooting sports and assisting with the Clay Targets in the Schools program.

“John brings a wealth of knowledge in program creation and management, as well as extensive experience, having previously managed hunter education for the state of North Dakota,” said Dustin Jensen, UJ Vice President for Student Affairs. “His connections, both locally and nationally, are invaluable. John’s knowledge of shotgun sports, archery, and the region in general will create great opportunities to recruit and engage with prospective student-athletes for the University.”

Mazur shot in Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA) competitions as a youth, and has shot in several local leagues as an adult. Mazur is a chief range safety officer, whose role is to certify range safety officers and assist in keeping shooting sports one of the safest sports available at all levels.

“I am excited to get started, as shooting sports at the collegiate level is on the rise,” Mazur said. “There is a lot of room for the sport to grow.”

Mazur, originally from Pittsburgh, Pa., moved to the Jamestown area 16 years ago. He and his wife have three children.
