CAMPUS CLIPS
COVID-19 (coronavirus) Message: March 16

Dear University of Jamestown Community,

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this historic time. With the COVID-19 pandemic still rapidly developing, the well-being of our students and employees is at the forefront of each decision made. We are receiving updates in real time as we consider the format of the remainder of our Spring Semester.

Today, topics of discussion include:

Residence halls are open. Our students are welcome here on campus—a place that, statistically speaking, is safer than many of the areas that are “home” to our students.
Three meals a day are available at Knight Hall, where there are adjusted hours: 8 – 9:30 am; 11 am – 12:30 pm; and 5 – 6:30 pm.

Regarding our academic programs at the University of Jamestown:

Undergraduate in-person classes are not being held on our campus this week.
The UJPT program in Fargo moved to an entirely online format as of today, March 16.
Online Undergraduate and Graduate programs also began their current 8-week session as of today.

Regarding Spring Sports:

This morning the NAIA Council of Presidents Executive Committee met, and canceled the 2020 Spring Season. Jim Carr, their President and CEO stated that, “No spring sport student-athlete will be charged a season of competition. Any spring sport student-athlete who was enrolled full-time in 2020 will be awarded two additional semester terms of attendance or the equivalent.”
Regarding winter sports student-athletes, the NAIA is working to provide answers about regulations and impacts on eligibility rules for those whose seasons were ended prematurely due to COVID-19.

In respect to co-curricular activities:

We know how important choir, theatre, band, Christian Ministry, and the plethora of additional co-curricular activities are to the campus. These group activities are restricted during this planning week.

If you are on campus, and you feel ill:

Do not go to an emergency room, or a clinic without first calling ahead. Consult your primary care provider first, if possible. The University of Jamestown partners with Sanford Health’s Clinic located at: 300 2nd Ave. NE in Jamestown. Their number is (701) 251-6000.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to any UJ administrator to assist you if you need help.

As this week progresses, we will keep you informed about any new developments that occur. Until that time, please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers as we continue to plan for the days and weeks to come.

God bless,

Polly Peterson
President
