Lindi Chadwick and friend

If someone told me I would be going to University of Jamestown when I was a senior in high school, I would have laughed and said, “No way.” Crazy how things work out… Being a Jamestown native, I always wanted to leave this town and explore. Who knew I could do that while staying in Jamestown?

The community of the town and the community of the campus are two completely different atmospheres. When I stepped on campus my first day of freshman year, my whole life changed while still being in the same town.

My Running Family

Since the first day of Cross Country, I grew such a great connection with my teammates and coaches. This connection later expanded when I was in Track season. Every year, my “family” has expanded, and my love for the team has grown as well.

Everyone has each other’s back and will help no matter what happens. The fall of my freshman year, my second cousin passed away from a tragic accident. When I told my team and coaches, they comforted me, let me be with my family, and allowed me to heal. Then, the spring of my sophomore year, my brother passed away suddenly. Again, I was comforted in another heartbreaking moment of my life. This is what my team does. We are there for each other in the darkest of times, as well as being there in the highest of times. We are one.

The People Here

It’s amazing the relationships, friendships, and connections you will make during your time at UJ. You can always count on people to say hi to you when you walk by them, hold a door open for you, ask you how you are doing, and get a thank you. Professors, athletic trainers, cafeteria staff, etc. all know who you are and care for you as a person. It doesn’t matter what sport you play, what you are studying, or where you came from, the people here see you for you. You make friendships you never thought you would. Throughout my years here, I have met SO many people, and each and every one will stay close to me.

Thankful, Grateful, Blessed

I wouldn’t want my college experience to be any different. From Java Hut runs with my friends, to early morning runs, being Women’s Indoor Track and Field Champions for two years, getting a new coach, late nights in the library, countless numbers of lesson plans, teaching in the Larson every week—the list goes on.

I’m grateful for the amount of support everybody has given me—forever grateful for the bad days and even more grateful for the good ones. I’m thankful for the growth I have had here and that I will get to become a Physical Education teacher. They say time goes by fast, and it sure did here. I will enjoy my remaining time here at UJ, forever blessed to be a part of this Jimmie community.
