UJ students offering free tax preparation

University of Jamestown accounting students are again offering the IRS-sponsored Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program for low-income and elderly taxpayers for free.

The volunteers will prepare and electronically file federal and state tax returns by appointment on:

Saturdays, February 2, 9, and 16: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.: located in Unruh Sheldon 136 classroom
Tuesday, February 5: 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.: located in Unruh Sheldon 105 (the Business, Accounting, and Economics office suite)
Thursday, February 7: 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.: located in Unruh Sheldon 105 (the Business, Accounting, and Economics office suite)

Appointments are required and can be made by calling 701-253-4468. If there is no answer, please leave a message including your name, phone number, and the best time to return your call. Appointments can also be made by emailing vita@uj.edu

Participants should bring any tax documents they have received (W-2s, 1099s, 1095s, etc.), a photo ID, and social security cards for taxpayers and dependents.

All VITA volunteers have passed a series of Internal Revenue Service certification exams at the Advanced level, and are bound by confidentiality agreements. Two volunteers have been specially certified to prepare nonresident tax returns for international participants. The volunteers are not allowed to do anything with depreciation and inventory for a business.
