SIR JIMMIE BLOG
The story so far – Tyson Brouwer

I am a goaltender for the Men’s Hockey team. I am from Lethbridge, Alberta Canada and I am a political science and business major, currently in my third year.

On October 25, 2015, I committed to play hockey for University of Jamestown. When I arrived, I was not sure what to expect. Having just finished my junior hockey career, there were a few things I had to adjust to.

Transitioning to college

I had already experienced living away from home at a young age, but now I was living in another country. I quickly had to figure out how to balance my athletic and academic life, which was a steep learning curve. This transition was made easier because of my advisor and the professors at the school.

Academic support

Since I came to University of Jamestown, the support and help I have received is second to none. I am grateful for the academic environment, and feel privileged to be able to interact with my professors because of the smaller class sizes.

Playing hockey

In regards to athletics, I cannot thank our trainers Camden, Gene and Mitch enough for the work they do with the athletes; the amount of hours they put in and how much they care is incredible. The addition of coach Ryder Weischedel this year has been amazing. I think the entire Athletic Department is benefiting from his presence and his knowledge.

The support the hockey team has received from the University, and the City of Jamestown has been tremendous, which has been shown through our success during the first two seasons. However, that success is only minimal to what we as a team want; we want to be national champions, and I have faith that we can.

When I do end up moving on from UJ, whether it be attending law school or playing professional hockey, I will feel confident that my time spent here will prepare me for whatever path I choose or is chosen for me.
