UJ Adds Trapshooting

University of Jamestown will now offer a Trapshooting Club to its students starting fall of 2018. The Club is co-ed, with male and female students competing together.

Trapshooting, also referred to as clay-pigeon shooting, is making a huge resurgence across the country. “Both North Dakota and Minnesota have huge high school programs, so we believe it is important to provide what potential students enjoy and desire,” explained Dustin Jensen, Dean of Engagement & Student Affairs.

UJ Director of Campus Safety, Liz Kapp, will be the Trapshooting Club advisor. Liz was born and raised in Jamestown, ND and has been involved in various capacities of law enforcement for more than 26 years. She is the President and founder of the North Dakota Women’s Law Enforcement Association. She is also on the Safe Shelter Board of Directors and is a member of SART (Sexual Assault Response Team), VFW Women’s Auxiliary, Jamestown Karate Association, and North Dakota Fraternal Oder of Police, as well as a past member of the North Dakota Peace Officers Association.

The Club will practice twice a week in September, October and April at the Buffalo City Gun Club. During the first year, UJ will host frequent inter-squad competitions, as well as web-based competitions against other programs in the region. As the team grows, the University plans to incorporate travel into the team’s schedule.
