SIR JIMMIE BLOG
Destiny – Benji Miller

My time at the University of Jamestown is almost up, and as I sit here writing this, I am reflecting on all the memories created during the past four years. I’ll always remember everything from the friendships I’ve made to the places I’ve been and everything in between.

Combining Golf, Band, and Choir

I had already decided to be on the golf team before I came to college. But when I found out I could also be in band and choir, that was just icing on the cake. Being in choir and band has brought me from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean and even over the ocean to Scotland and Ireland.

Golf has also brought me to many courses I never thought I would play on and has allowed me to meet some amazing people along the way. I am so grateful to all three of these programs for being a part of my college journey.

Destiny

After graduating from high school, I had no intention of coming to UJ. To be honest, I didn’t even know there was a college in Jamestown. Dustin Jensen, the head golf coach back then, saw me play at the Class B State Golf Tournament. After seeing me golf, Dustin offered me a scholarship, and I accepted it. That is how my journey at Jamestown began, but the last four years at UJ almost didn’t happen.

A few weeks before I graduated from high school, I made a stupid mistake by going out and having a couple of drinks at a party. Long story short, I almost got a minor. Come to find out, about a year later, I should have gotten a minor, but the cop let me off the hook.

I started to think and realized that had I gotten a minor that night, I wouldn’t have been able to go to state golf, Dustin would never have seen me play and I would’ve never come to the University of Jamestown.

So, whether you believe in destiny or not, I believe that everyone has a destiny and it was mine to be a Jimmie. I couldn’t imagine my life without the University of Jamestown being a part of it.
