SIR JIMMIE BLOG
It’s life, It’s war, It’s a potato – Colin Crabtree

When trying to some up with a topic for what my experience has been like at the University of Jamestown, I had trouble picking something because a lot has gone on in almost five years of going to college.

My favorite poem

To help me find some inspiration I turned to one of my favorite poems that has stuck with me for years. The poem goes as follow, “C’est la vie, C’est la guerre, C’est une pomme de terre.” Translated to English, the poem reads, “It’s life, It’s war, It’s a potato.”

I know this poem doesn’t make a lot of sense other than it rhymes in French, but it has a deeper meaning to me. In my time here at UJ, I have learned that life isn’t always going to turn out how thought it would.

Sometimes life is war.

You just have to battle through some hard situations – from surviving Freshmen Orientation to staying up in the late hours of the night to finish your Senior Seminar paper.

Sometimes life is a potato.

What I mean by this is that there are a lot of different ways to have your life turn out, and you have to find your favorite way that you like your potato, or life, done.

I have learned a lot about myself since I have been a student at UJ since the fall of 2013, and you never know how your potato is going to turn out. Your time in college is very valuable. Once you are long gone and graduated, you will still look back at your time and see that your life turned out how it did because of what you did in college.
