Heitkamp Announces Development Funds For JREC

U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp announced federal grants totaling over $687,000 to help rural communities throughout North Dakota start new small businesses and provide assistance for existing ones to grow.

“Small businesses throughout North Dakota support jobs, grow the economy, and allow entrepreneurs to put their passion to work,” said Heitkamp. “Last week I sat down with a group of women entrepreneurs in Bismarck and discussed how we could better support women in growing their small businesses. North Dakota has seen a large increase in the number of women owned businesses since 2007 and replicating this success across the state will help diversify North Dakota’s economy and strengthen our communities. The federal funds announced today will provide the opportunity many small businesses need to grow and keep rural North Dakota towns a great place to call home.”

Jamestown Regional Development Center at University of Jamestown received $63,415 in federal funds to help entrepreneurs in Wells, Foster, Griggs, Stutsman, Barnes, Logan, LaMoure, McIntosh, and Dickey Counties launch their businesses.

These federal funds are made available through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development’s Rural Business Development Grant program. This grant program is designed to support small business in rural communities through technical and training assistance.
