Megan Kuehl Named Women’s Track and Field Head Coach at UJ

Former St. Norbert College (Wisc.) assistant coach Megan Kuehl (Betz) is the new women’s track and field head coach at the University of Jamestown.

Kuehl (pronounced Keel) served as the first full-time track and field assistant coach at St. Norbert for the past five years. She coached men’s and women’s short sprinters, horizontal jumpers and multi-event student-athletes while also assisting with cross-country.

“Megan is the right person at the right time for our women’s track and field program at the University of Jamestown,” said University of Jamestown Director of Athletics Sean Johnson. “She brings a wealth of knowledge to our program and tremendous leadership skills that will build on the long standing success we have enjoyed.”

St. Norbert’s women’s cross-country and indoor and outdoor track and field teams completed a rare triple crown in 2016-17, with all three squads winning Midwest Conference championships.
Kuehl helped lead St. Norbert’s women’s team to Midwest Conference championships in both indoor and outdoor track and field in 2015, 2016 and 2017 and the men’s first-ever outdoor track and field title in 2015. The 2015 women’s indoor championship was the first league title for the program since 1991.

“I am honored to be joining the Jamestown community,” said Kuehl. “The Jimmies have an established program thanks to Coach Clark and I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with such an experienced leader and hope to continue building on his legacy.”

Program founder and Jimmie Hall of Famer Jim Clark will remain on the Jimmie women’s track and field staff as an associate head coach.

“Coach Kuehl is very knowledgeable in many events, having been a heptathlete in college and has good experience in a successful program,” said Coach Clark.

The UJ women’s track and field and cross-country programs have won 42 league championships during Coach Clark’s tenure including five titles in the last three seasons.

“The student-athletes on the women’s team are exactly the type of dedicated people I want to work with and recruit,” said Kuehl. “The array of majors, student life, and Jimmie traditions make UJ a very appealing school to attend. I strive to continue to build the program up by recruiting quality student-athletes that strive to succeed, both on and off the track.”

Kuehl helped Green Knight track and field student-athletes break 32 school records during her five seasons.

Kuehl competed collegiately at the University of Montana from 2006 to 2010, specializing in the high jump and hurdles events. A team captain during her junior and senior years, Kuehl helped the Grizzlies to three top-three Big Sky Conference finishes. Kuehl placed in the top eight in the multi or high jump six times.

A graduate of Central High School in DeWitt, Iowa, Kuehl served as a firefighter in the Bitterroot and Lolo National Forest while an undergraduate student at the University of Montana.
