A Fabulous Ride – Lori Listopad

Wow! Time flies when you are having fun working at the University of Jamestown! That is for sure. I had no idea when I stepped foot on campus in early 2005 that I would still be a member of the University of Jamestown staff almost thirteen years later. It has been a fabulous ride!

Yes, I have switched roles at UJ. But, one thing has remained consistent—my love for working with the students. Over the years, I can reminisce about the amazing encounters I have had with students either working in the residence halls, at a University dance, or working in retention.

The encounter may have initially been a negative experience for the student, but in the end, I hope it was positive. Student life is all about working with students, no matter the situation.

My favorite thing about working with students is seeing them grow from their first steps on campus to walking across stage at graduation. It can truly be a transformation. I see changes in confidence, in ability, and in desire. They want to succeed.

I also have loved seeing students have fun. For me, college was a magical time and truly some of the best years of my life. I hope that I can help students experience something similar. It can be tough, it can be demanding, but it can also be so much fun! That lifelong friendships can last forever…trust me. Some of my all-time best friends have come from various states of my life, including college.

This place, UJ, is special. People care, and we care about our students. I love it here. I love my encounters with the students each and every day. And, I hope that I am making a difference.
