Harold Newman Arena Kickoff Event

On April 21, over 400 University of Jamestown students, faculty, staff and community members gathered at the Harold Newman Arena construction site to say thank you to the sponsors, donors, and everyone in the community that is helping to make this new arena a reality. Students faculty, and staff worked together to make the phrase “THANK U” as a drone took still shots of the formation.

The school fight song was played as the crowd sang along and then thank you speeches were given by President Robert Badal, freshman Isaac Wahlin (men’s basketball player), and junior Bryn Woodside (women’s basketball player).

Harold Newman Arena is a 15 million dollar, 61,000 sq. ft. project that will house a full sized basketball court, 8 locker rooms, a large booster room overlooking the court, a training facility, 2 small lounges, a large laundry room for the athletic program, two concessions areas, a ticket booth, and a retail store area.

The arena training facility will include a place for trainers to work with athletes on development and rehabilitation. The space will include training tables, treadmills and stationary bikes.

A major feature of the arena will be a new bell tower that will be rung after every Jimmie win and will hold Jimmie Athletic Hall of Fame.

The arena will have approximately 2,000 seats with some room for overflow guests, and will feature a large foyer area that will be accessible to the community for events. The Jim and MoDean McCullough Foyer will seat up to 300 guests.

On site construction will begin May 9, 2016. Contractors will mobilize to the site beginning May 2, and completion is scheduled for the end of August 2017.
