GAIN REAL-LIFE EXPERIENCE — ALL BEFORE YOU GRADUATE

Internships

Between junior and senior year: Gain work experience in a healthcare setting while you earn course credit.

Preceptorships Stateside

As a second semester senior, you will polish your nursing role and prepare for the move into the real world of nursing. You may choose one of the two options for your senior preceptorship: spend 172 hours working 1:1 with a registered nurse from a variety of health care settings OR choose to study abroad with nursing faculty for 3 weeks followed by a local/Jamestown preceptorship consisting of 64 hours working 1:1 with a registered nurse.

Preceptorships in Africa

For part of your preceptorship experience, you may choose to travel with nursing faculty to Kenya, or Malawi, Africa. While abroad, you will care for children and adults with malaria, HIV, and other health conditions unique to developing countries. You will also enjoy a 3-day safari before returning to the United States. In addition to this trip, when you return to Jamestown you will experience a 64 hour preceptorship working 1:1 with a registered nurse in a local/Jamestown facility.
