Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service provided free of charge by the University of Jamestown to its students, faculty and staff.

 

Requesting Books in ODIN

Video Turorial

  • Access the library catalog.
  • Above the search bar and farthest to the right there is a link for”All ODIN Libraries“. This expands your search results to find books from participating libraries all over North Dakota.
  • Once you find a book you would like to request, click on the title of the book (a blue link). This will open the record for the book. Click on the “Request” link.
  • You will be prompted to sign-on to your library account – click the link to access the login screen. For Library Barcode, enter your UJ Student/Staff/Faculty ID number; for password, enter your last name.
  • The ILL form will generate with all the book information filled in. The “Willing to pay option?” should be left as No. Click Request.
  •  Read the copyright restrictions and click accept. You will see a message saying, “Request created successfully”.

 

Requesting Articles in ODIN

Video Tutorial

  • Access the library catalog.
  • Above the search bar click “All Library Resources” or “Online Articles” Enter your search terms. They can be words, phrases on your subject, or the actual title of the article you need.
  • If Raugust library does not have the article you need in full text, you can order it through ILL.
  • Click on the title of the article (a blue link). This will open the record for the article. Click on the “Request” link.
  • On the page that opens, select Request Document via Univ. of Jamestown Interlibrary Loan.
  • You will be prompted to sign-on to your library account – click the link to access the login screen. For Library Barcode, enter your UJ Student/Staff/Faculty ID number; for password, enter your last name.
  • The ILL form will display with the article citation already generated.  Note: The form is different and larger than the book ILL form. Make sure it is the article you need and all the information is complete. The “Willing to pay option?” should be left as No.
  • For the Until what date are you interested in the material? Select at least 10 calendar days from today’s date.
  • For the Preferred Media select copy (electronic).
  • Check the copyright box in the bottom left corner, and then click go.
  • A message should display that your Request was created successfully

 

Requesting Items outside of ODIN

Some Databases may provide their own ILL links. Click the “Find it at UJ” button and then select Request Document via Univ. of Jamestown Interlibrary Loan.

If you cannot find an ILL link, then you can login to ODIN and fill out the appropriate Request ILL Form. Please fill in all the required information for the item.

Timetable for Delivery

Requested materials are normally processed on the same day as they are submitted. However, the ILL department cannot guarantee the time it takes for materials to arrive. The following timetable serves as a guide:

  • North Dakota Libraries: 3 – 5 Working Days
  • Minnesota Libraries: 5 – 10 Working Days
  • Outside Tri-State (ND, SD, MN) : 5 – 15 Working Days

 

Delivery

Periodical (article) requests will either be e-mailed to your UJ e-mail address or be mailed directly to your campus box upon arrival. Photocopies are yours to keep. Notices for books will be e-mailed to your UJ e-mail address when the item(s) are available.

Renewals

Most lending libraries are willing to renew ILL materials. Please submit your Renewal Request through ODIN to the ILL Department at least two days before your material is due.
