The Wilson Competitive Scholarship Program (by invitation only)

The Wilson Scholarship provides four full tuition scholarships for four years and was established in the memory of the late Dr. John L. Wilson and his wife, Palma.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be officially accepted to the University of Jamestown and possess a minimum 3.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) and an ACT composite score of 24 or SAT of 1160.
  • Candidates must demonstrate commendable academic and leadership skills through attendance at one of two Honors Scholarship Day events: November 18, 2019 & January 20, 2020.
  • Candidates participate in on-campus interviews and write an essay.



Renewability Requirements:

  • Scholarship renewability will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee following the end of each semester.

The Legacy of John L. Wilson at Jamestown College

John L. Wilson was born in Indiana and raised in North Dakota, graduating from high school in Inkster, N.D. He earned both a bachelor of arts/bachelor of science from Jamestown College, and both a master of arts/master of science degree from the University of Oregon, his doctorate from the University of Minnesota.

As a talented research chemist, Dr. Wilson developed new products for Economic Laboratories, Inc., which helped make life easier and safer for people throughout the world. He was an active participant and leader in chemical and engineering societies. Dr Wilson, as a devout Christian, worked

for many religious and charitable causes and was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church. He also helped many generations of young people with their education and careers as a teacher and a coach.

Dr. Wilson was interim President of Jamestown College from 1968 to 1969 and also earned President Emeritus and Trustee Emeritus honors. He served on the College’s Board of Trustees from 1957 until his death in 1983. Dr. Wilson devoted a large share of his time, talents, energy, and enthusiasm to Jamestown College. The Wilson Scholarship, Wilson Hall, and Wilson Memorial Chapel bear his name today.
