Study in the areas of performance, direction, design, stagecraft, and literature will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the art and the ability to put that knowledge to work following graduation.

As course offerings can change from semester to semester, working with the Registrar’s office will ensure that your courses are kept on schedule so that you can graduate in four years.

University of Jamestown is proud to offer theatre scholarships to students who demonstrate talent in areas where you may grow as an actor, director, designer, or playwright.

We offer Theatre Major scholarships up to $6,500 annually (total value of up to $26,000 over four years), and theatre participation awards up to $3,000 annually (total value of up to $12,000 over four years) for students who wish to regularly participate in theatre, but plan to pursue other majors. An on-campus audition or interview is required for an award, and renewal is based on continued participation in the theatre program.

Performing Arts Scholarships Application

  • We offer a Performing Arts Major scholarship (up to $6500/year) and a Performing Arts Participation scholarship (up to $3000/year). We invite you to participate by completing the Music Scholarship application below. When we have received your application, your admission counselor will be in contact with you.

    Auditions are available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Times are first-come, first-serve. Your admission counselor or visit coordinator will be in touch with you to confirm your time.

    Music Participation Auditions:

    Instrumental ensemble Participation Audition
    o Play a full-range chromatic scale as high as possible and as low as possible to demonstrate range and technique
    o Be prepared to play scales up to three sharps and three flats
    o Play a half-page etude or solo (Must list piece with this application)

    Choral Ensemble Participation Auditions
    o Vocalize up and down the scale to demonstrate range
    o Sing a short familiar tune to demonstrate vocal tone and technique
    o Repeat four melodic patterns to demonstrate tonal memory
    o (For Soprano only) – Sing a one-note crescendo and decrescendo on high F-sharp for tone characteristics and vibrato control

    Music Major Auditions:

    A performance component, consisting of two contrasting selections from standard classical literature, in your primary performance area. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding suitable literature (Must list piece with application)
    Provide a letter of reference from your music teacher
    Provide a brief resume of your interests and experience in music

    Fine Arts Major (Theatre) and Theatre Participation Auditions:

    Meet with Mike McIntyre, Theatre Director
    Perform two prepared monologues or pieces of your choosing. Each monologue should be 1-2 minutes in length.
