    University of Jamestown seeks a broadly trained American historian who is a dedicated teacher and mentor to undergraduate students at a small, private university on the northern plains to begin in August 2021. A Ph.D. is required; candidates with ABD status and near completion will be considered. The successful candidate will be able to teach a two-course U.S. History survey sequence, historiography, specialized courses in U.S. history, and a course in North Dakota History. Candidates with expertise in African American, Latinx, or Native American history and/or the ability to teach a course in another geographic area, especially Africa, Latin America, or Asia, are especially encouraged to apply.

    The University of Jamestown seeks applicants for the position of Dean of the Undergraduate College to oversee all aspects of the college’s academic affairs at its campus in Jamestown, North Dakota. The University of Jamestown was founded by Presbyterian settlers to the Dakota Territory in 1883 and maintains its founders’ commitment to the development of wholeness in its students. The university blends the liberal arts with sound professional preparation, offers rich co-curricular activities, and integrates its commitment to the Christian faith throughout all of its operations.     Duties include but are not limited to:

    • Oversight of a wide range of undergraduate academic departments including programs in the hard sciences, social sciences, humanities, fine arts, business, teacher education, nursing, and engineering;
    • Oversight of the university’s co-curricular offerings in the performing arts, including band, choir, and theatre;
    • Working closely with departments requiring specialized accreditation and with the university’s institutional effectiveness team to maintain regional accreditation through the HLC;
    • Management of the college’s personnel, including the appointment of department chairs and program directors;
    • Promotion of college-wide inclusion and diversity initiatives;
    • Management of the college’s academic budgets;
    • The dual responsibility of representing administrative interests and perspectives to the faculty and faculty interests and perspectives to the administration.


    The ideal candidate will have an earned doctorate, previous administrative experience at the level of department chair, program director or higher, and experience teaching at the collegiate level. The individual must have good interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to solve complex problems. The university excels in the area of leadership development and seeks to create an administration, faculty, and staff that is representative of the nation as a whole; as such, we encourage applications from individuals of groups that are historically underrepresented in American higher education.


    The Dean of the College of Undergraduate Studies reports to the Provost and sits on the President’s Council. S/he holds faculty status. The start date may be as early as January 2021 and is negotiable.

    The University of Jamestown invites applications for the position of Director of Libraries to begin in the summer of 2021. The Director leads the libraries in their mission to meet the needs of a university spread across two physical campuses and into cyberspace, articulates a strategic vision, and serves as an advocate for the libraries within the university and larger community.


    The Director of Libraries is the chief administrator for the university’s libraries, which includes Raugust Library in Jamestown, Zaruba Library in Fargo, the digital collections for the university students online, and the University Archives. The Director of Libraries reports to the Provost and is responsible for the successful administration of the libraries in accordance with the mission of the University of Jamestown and its policies and procedures. The Director holds faculty status.


    The Director provides strategic, operational, and collaborative leadership for the libraries. S/he

    • Facilitates the continuing transformation of the libraries into a knowledge commons that integrates diverse resources, seeks new opportunities, engages with the community, collaborates with university units, and sustains a vibrant learning community.
    • Creates an environment that facilitates research and scholarly activity with an understanding of innovative and traditional methods of information dissemination.
    • Establishes a shared vision that promotes the university’s and the libraries’ missions and strategic plans.
    • Supports a culture of collegiality that is supportive of professional advancement.
    • Fosters an organizational and educational climate that promotes and celebrates diversity.
    • Communicates internally and externally the activities of the libraries.
    • Develops and maintains good relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community.
    • Works with library staff and academic department chairs to identify, evaluate, and implement programs that improve services and enhance the quality of resources.
    • Functions as chief fiscal officer for the libraries and provides clear communication about the budget.
    • Acts as an advocate for the libraries and their faculty and staff.
    • Promotes the libraries, formally and informally, to the university, community and the world.
    • Participates actively in local, state, and national library organizations.


    A master’s degree in Library Science or similar area of study is required; an additional advanced degree is preferred. Previous experience and evidence of increasing levels of responsibility in a university library are required.

Staff Positions

    DEPARTMENT: Office of Admissions


    REPORTS TO: Director of Admissions


    PRIMARY FUNCTION
    In collaboration with the Director of Admissions, the Campus Visit Coordinator shall lead the Undergraduate Admissions Office in developing a formal campus visit program that will include planning and organizing daily scheduling of individual tours and campus visit events. The Campus Visit Coordinator will manage campus visit events in the admissions CRM including registration forms and prospect event communication. This position will assist in the planning and preparation of varied event communications to prospects including print and electronic communications as well as collecting and analyzing campus visit feedback and providing regular reporting on campus visit data. Additionally, this position is responsible for various administrative support duties necessary for the recruitment and admission of incoming students within the Office of Admissions. This position serves as an integral part of the Admissions Support Team maintaining an advanced level of knowledge and assisting in the processing of prospect inquiries and applications as well as directing support staff in the processing of these items. Duties include responding to phone and in-person inquiries and directing these inquiries to the appropriate staff member or office, greeting prospective students and their families, and managing communications related to planning personal campus visits and events. We seek energetic candidates with a strong sense of initiative, professionalism, the ability to work well independently and in a team, and the capacity to manage multiple responsibilities concurrently.


    QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
    Bachelor’s degree preferred, excelling in writing and public-speaking skills, strong computer skills, high energy and ability to articulate the benefits of an education at the University of Jamestown is required. Experience in college admissions (preferred).

    • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills for both internal and external audiences.
    • Maintain high-level program knowledge base to effectively answer questions.
    • Attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Must be able to utilize technology and maintain various forms of technology including to inform and engage others including the admissions CRM.
    • Must be able to multi-task and maintain focus on those tasks and be a self-starter who can work with little supervision.
    • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities.
    • Proficiency in Windows Operating Systems with expertise in Microsoft Office products including Word, Outlook and Excel required. CRM experience preferred.


    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • This position requires the use of student workers to coordinate tour guide scheduling and front desk support.

    The University of Jamestown is currently accepting applications for a Graduate Assistant position with its campus ministries for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 academic years. The successful candidate will report to the Chaplain and will assist with various administrative and spiritual formation aspects of the program. This is a 10-month assistantship with a start date of August 1st.


    Bachelor’s degree and acceptance into a graduate program is required. The preferred candidate should have had active involvement in campus ministries. Additional requirements include strong communication, organizational, and supervisory skills, the ability to work well in a team environment, and the capacity to model mature, responsible leadership. The candidate must be willing to work weekends and holidays and travel as necessary.     Compensation Information

    Full tuition, housing and the Block 150 Meal Plan (150 meals + 5 Jimmie Bucks per semester) are covered with this UJ Graduate Assistant position.
