Polly Peterson(’89) Named in the top 25 Women in Business

University of Jamestown’s very own Polly Peterson made it on the Prairie Business Magazine’s top 25 women in business list. “Women play a vital role in this region’s business community and we are proud to shine a light on some of the most inspirational and successful women in the region,” said Kris Bevill, editor of Prairie Business magazine. “We continue to be blown away by the depth of talent in our region and it was an extremely difficult task selecting just 25 women for this list. Our sincere congratulations go out to the selected recipients as well as all of the nominees.”

Honorees were selected through a nomination process that emphasized professional achievement and community contributions. In order to be eligible for the award, candidates must live and work in the Dakotas or western Minnesota and must not have received the award previously.

Polly received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Jamestown in 1989 with degrees in Accounting and Business Administration. She graduated Suma Cum Laude and was named as a College Fellow in both Business and Accounting. In May 2000, Polly graduated with a Masters Degree in Business (MBA) from Regis University. She worked for three years in Public Accounting for EideBailly after which she was hired as the Controller and later a Professor of Accounting at the University of Jamestown. In December, 2006 she was named the Vice President for Institutional Advancement assuming the responsibilities for development and alumni relations. In 2014 Polly was named the Executive Vice President. Her duties now include the over-site of both the Business Affairs Office and the Office of Institutional Advancement.

In addition to her demanding work load, Polly is currently enrolled in NDSU’s graduate program and is expecting to complete her PhD in 2015. Polly has earned professional designations as a Certified Public Accountant and Personal Financial Specialist and holds a series 6 and life and health insurance license. Polly is a member of the NDSCPA, and the AICPA, and has been named to Who’s Who in American College Teachers. She has been a volunteer for the American Heart Association, the St. John’s Academy Annual Fund Campaign, Jamestown Youth Soccer, and Jamestown Basketball Boosters. She has served as a volunteer member of the St. John’s Academy School Board for over 10 years and previously served a 2 year term as the Chairman of the Finance Committee at the Basilica of St. James Catholic Church. Not only has Polly had a successful career and been a contributing member of the Jamestown community, she and her husband have three active children, in whose lives Polly has played a very active role in attending, coaching and organizing many athletic activities.
