8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. MANDATORY TESTING – LYNGSTAD (S):Chemistry/Math placement testing—mandatory for students enrolled in MATH 151, MATH 111, or CHEM 133. Please bring 2 pencils and a non-programmable calculator. Further information will be provided at check-in.
8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. PARENT ORIENTATION PRESENTATIONS (P):

8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. ONE-ON-ONE TIME TO MEET WITH YOUR FACULTY ADVISOR – INFORMATION PROVIDED AT THE WELCOME CENTER (S):
Review your information packet to find out when your 15 minute session is scheduled and where. YOUR ADVISOR WILL BE COUNTING ON YOU TO BE THERE—Discuss your schedule, questions, your potential major, expectations, and so much more! This event is for students only.
9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. PARENT ORIENTATION PRESENTATIONS (P):

9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. PURCHASE YOUR BOOKS – UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN BOOKSTORE (A)
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. MANDATORY TESTING – COLLEGIATE LEARNING ASSESSMENT EXAM – VARIOUS CLASSROOMS – LOCATION INFORMATION AT THE WELCOME CENTER (S):
All first year students that are selected are required to take the Collegiate Learning Assessment Exam (You will be notified of your selection during check-in to orientation). The CLA measures your critical thinking, analytic reasoning, problem solving and written communication abilities. Your score report will include your strengths and weaknesses on these skills and compare your performance to other students at the University of Jamestown and nationwide. Your participation also will help the University of Jamestown gauge its performance in helping you develop these skills.
10:30 a.m. MEET THE PARENTS (PARENT ORIENTATION) – SOCs TALK WITH PARENTS – Level Two (P):
Four SOC members will sit and talk with parents in an informal Q & A.

1:00 p.m. START YOUR FIRST YEAR SEMINAR EXPERIENCE (JOURNEY 101) -
VARIOUS CLASSROOMS – LOCATION INFORMATION AT THE WELCOME CENTER(S):
Meet your first year seminar instructor and peer guide. Your instructor and guide will discuss an introduction to college life and academics including: academic expectations, study skills, communicating with your advisor, plus – lots of time for questions and answers.
2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. BREAKOUT SESSIONS – VARIOUS LOCATIONS ON CAMPUS(S):

  • SEXUAL COERCION, SAFETY, AND AWARENESS – LIBRARY B:  What is it, skills to protect yourself, and what to do if it happens.
  • STUDY ABROAD – LIBRARY C: Find out about what you need to know to plan your international educational experience.
4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. INTERNATIONAL ORIENTATION BREAKOUT—Level 2 (S):Come learn information that will make your transition to North Dakota and the United States much easier. Learn about work information, driver’s license, social security, and much more!
5:00 p.m. DINNER – DINING CENTER (S)
6:00 p.m. COMMON EXPERIENCE MOVIE “INVICTUS” – REILAND FINE ARTS CENTER AUDITORIUM (S):
You will join your first year seminar class to view this year’s common experience.
8:00 p.m. MOVIE BREAKOUT SESSIONS – VARIOUS CLASSROOMS – INFORMATION AT THE WELCOME CENTER (S):
Join your first year seminar instructor, peer guide, and orientation leaders. Your instructor will lead discussions about the summer movie. This is an opportunity for an in-depth academic discussion similar to many you will have in the classroom.
9:00 p.m. WOULD YOU LIKE TO BUY A VOWEL? EXTREME SCRABBLE – LEVEL TWO (S):
Run around campus to find letters and bring them back to Level Two to compete for prizes. It is scrabble like you have never played it before! (No need to play EXTREME scrabble – for those of you that choose…test your vocabulary knowledge with traditional Scrabble in Level Two).
10:00 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. DANCE – KROEZE COURTYARD (Rain Site: Hansen Center) (S):
