Faculty

The University of Jamestown Department of Nursing seeks to hire a nurse educator to serve as an Instructor or Assistant Professor of Nursing. Course assignments vary according to departmental needs and applicant area of expertise. The position is a fulltime, 9-month contract. Position will be open until filled.

Minimum requirements:

  • Earned master’s degree in nursing or current enrollment in a master’s degree program in nursing
  • Five years’ experience in nursing

The Department of English at the University of Jamestown invites applications for Assistant Professor of English beginning August 2024. This is a permanent, full-time position (UJ does not have tenure system). This is a new position created in response to UJ’s new partnership with Chandigarh University in India and an anticipated enrollment increase in international students from that university. Applicants with experience working with international students and academic writing from southeast Asia are encouraged to highlight those experiences. The candidate will teach three courses per semester for the English department and work 10 hours/week as a professional tutor in the Writing Center.

Minimum requirements:

  • Master’s degree in English or related field
  • Demonstrable experience working with international and/or multilingual students

Preferred requirements:

  • PhD in Rhetoric and Composition.
  • Experience teaching STEM writing and/or Writing Center experience.

The University of Jamestown’s Master of Science in Clinical Counseling program seeks an Assistant Director of Clinical Training and Instructor or Assistant Professor. This is a full-time, online teaching and administrative position that will have face-to-face requirements (e.g., teaching in person one week per year, networking or meetings in person may be required).

Re-location is not necessary but working in Fargo, ND, or Jamestown, ND, is required several times per semester.

Job Duties include:

· Full-time teaching responsibilities (2 courses per session or 4 courses per semester) with online, asynchronous courses

o Teach practicum and internship courses

o Teach other courses, depending upon background and experience

· Administrative responsibilities that involve coordinating and overseeing all practicum and internship experiences

o Work with students to coordinate training sites. This may involve national reach and the ability to work across state lines with different state regulations and rules.

o Develop a process for how students acquire training sites

o Monitor training sites in accordance with American Psychological Association (APA) standards

· Assist the Program Director in establishing goals, setting targets/benchmarks, and regularly assessing program and learning outcomes within the context of continuous program improvement

· Maintain licensure, membership in professional organizations, and/or appropriate professional development, including being familiar with emerging issues in counseling

· Practice counseling in some capacity (e.g., private practice, university setting)

· Serve on university committees

· Assist Program Director in accreditation process as well as potentially developing a student-run clinic in the Fargo area

· May be required to supervise students in a clinical capacity depending upon licensure and credentials

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work remotely

Minimum Qualifications:

· Doctoral degree in counseling, social work, or related clinical field and currently independently licensed or license eligible to practice counseling (LP, LPC/LPCC, or LCSW) in ND.

The Department of Computer Science and Technology at the University of Jamestown is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Computer Science faculty member with a passion for teaching and is looking to excel in a liberal arts environment. University of Jamestown School of Nursing seeks applications for an experienced individual to fill the role of ASN and DEMSN Program Director. The Program Director will report to the Executive Director of the School of Nursing (EDSON) and hold the faculty rank appropriate for her or his qualifications and previous experience. The Program Director must have a physical presence in Fargo, ND, and will be responsible for the day-to-day operations for the University’s Fargo nursing programs. Interviews will begin immediately and the position will be filled as soon as a qualified candidate is identified.

History:

University of Jamestown boasts the longest-standing BSN program in the state of North Dakota, graduating their first cohort in 1950. The BSN program is a traditional program located on Jamestown, ND campus. The BSN program holds national accreditation by CCNE (2032) and is approved by the NDBON. The BSN program has a long history of scoring above national average on the NCLEX-RN exam and in 2023 scored 100% on the first ever Next Gen NCLEX.

Mission of the School of Nursing and Context:

The mission of the School of Nursing, utilizing an integrated curriculum, is to teach and promote holistic health for individuals, families, and communities. Our purpose is to prepare practice-ready, entry-level nurse generalists and increase the overall number of nurses in the workforce. The Associate, Bachelor, RN-BSN, and Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing programs meet the learner where they are, thus laying the foundation to practice as a professional nurse and/or to pursue further education. The School of Nursing’s mission is also to serve and contribute to our campus and our community by assisting in health-related activities.

In collaboration with the Executive Director of the School of Nursing, the Program Director will be instrumental in the ongoing development and launch of the innovative ASN and DEMSN programs at our Fargo, ND, location. A new, state-of-the-art, 12-bed simulation center will be built within walking distance of Sanford Health, North Dakota’s largest medical center and the only Level I Adult Trauma Center between Minneapolis and Seattle, Denver, and Omaha, as well as a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center. Sanford Health is partnering with the University of Jamestown and will be the host for a wide variety of clinical experiences. The theory/didactic learning will occur 100% online utilizing resources that are designed to keep the student actively engaged.

National accreditation will be sought from CNEA and CCNE for the ASN and DEMSN programs, respectively. The EDSON and the Program Director will work collaboratively to attain CNEA initial accreditation as well as initiate the approval process from CCNE for the DEMSN program. State board approval is pending at the April 2024 NDBON meeting.

Required Qualifications:

1. A minimum of a master’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution. If a master’s degree is in a discipline other than nursing, the faculty member must submit evidence of acceptable graduate-level coursework in nursing, which includes learning principles for adult education, nursing curriculum development, administration, and evaluation.

2. A current unencumbered registered nurse license or privilege to practice in the state of North Dakota, or eligible to attain.

3. Academically and experientially qualified to carry out the mission and expected program outcomes.

4. Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead, direct, and advise faculty.

5. Commitment to educating a diverse student body and helping students improve their lives while helping healthcare providers meet their workforce needs.

6. Takes initiative to work individually and in teams to meet the goals of the University.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Earned doctoral degree in nursing or an earned master’s degree in nursing and an earned doctoral degree from an accredited institution.

2. Previous experience in education as Department Chair, Program Chair, Clinical Director, or other high-level leadership roles.

3. A current knowledge of nursing practice at the associate, baccalaureate, and master’s degree nurse level.

4. Previous experience with CNEA and CCNE accreditation process for nursing programs

5. Experience in multiple delivery methods (traditional, hybrid, and online).

Roles of the Program Director:

1. Development and maintenance of an environment conducive to the teaching and learning processes.

2. Cooperate with administrative and other units within the academic setting.

3. Leadership within the faculty for the development and implementation of the curriculum.

4. Provide theoretical instruction and practice experiences (+may serve as a faculty member when needed and as position allows).

Graduate Assistant

The University of Jamestown (NAIA), located in Jamestown, ND, is seeking applications for two Sports Information Graduate Assistants.
A graduate assistant position at the University of Jamestown offers the successful applicant a path towards a professional career.

The successful candidate will assist the Sports Information Director in all facets of the sports information office. They will assist with game management, including in-game stat keeping using DakStats software, coordinating webcasts of home events using Production Truck/Wirecast software, and other game day duties as assigned.

They will assist the SID with website management, including game stories and sport program updates.  They will also promote University of Jamestown student-athletes and coaches across traditional and emerging media communication vehicles.  A successful candidate will be able to help with the design and layout of several publications, historical research and accurate archiving of athletic records, and building photographical databases.

The Graduate Assistant will serve as in-house sports information representative when the SID is on the road with UJ teams. The Graduate Assistant may be required to travel with teams on certain occasions.

Requirements include: a familiarity with college sports, strong grasp of English language and ability to write coherent press releases and sports stories, and the willingness to learn on the fly. The successful applicant must be available for the majority of fall, winter, and spring; including evenings and weekends.

The University of Jamestown currently competes in the NAIA as a part of the Great Plains Athletic Conference and will compete in the Star Athletic Association in 2024-2025.  Jimmie Athletics is in the process of transitioning to NCAA DII and competing in the North Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

Established as Jamestown College in 1883 by members of the Presbyterian Church, the University of Jamestown is a private, liberal arts university granting Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, and Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees at the undergraduate level, master’s degrees in Education, Leadership, and Clinical Counseling, and doctoral degrees in Physical Therapy (DPT) and Clinical Research (PhD). Terms of Employment:

  • Online/remote position
  • 20 hours per week
  • 2-year consecutive commitment. Start date on or before May 1st
  • Must maintain passing grades in enrolled graduate coursework
  • Compensation: Full tuition for a UJ graduate program

Position Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will assist the Director of Institutional Effectiveness with institutional activities related to assessment, accreditation, data analysis, and reporting. These tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining institutional assessment software
  • Exporting assessment data and formatting reports
  • Coordinating assessment day activities
  • Organizing assessment records
  • Promoting assessment activities such as institutional surveys
  • Supporting continuous improvement efforts across the university
  • Other clerical duties as needed

  • Must be accepted as a full-time, degree-seeking student in a UJ graduate program
  • Demonstrate commitment to the mission of the University of Jamestown
  • Demonstrate ability to be self-motivated, self-reflective, and to conduct oneself in an ethical and professional manner
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills (including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat)
  • Detail-oriented
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
