University of Jamestown will welcome alumni and friends back to the campus for Homecoming 2013 Friday and Saturday, Oct. 11 and 12. The Homecoming theme chosen by University of Jamestown students is “Jimmies, Here’s to U!”

Friday, Oct. 11

The Jimmie Booster Club luncheon begins at noon in the Nafus Center L2. Cost is $7 at the door. Coaches will provide updates on their seasons, and Jimmie fans will have the opportunity to meet student-athletes.

The Jimmie baseball team will host an alumni game at 3:30 p.m. at Jack Brown Stadium.

The Jimmie cross country teams will host the Jimmie Invitational at 4 p.m. at Hillcrest Golf Course.

The Jimmie softball team will host an alumni game at 4:30 p.m. at McElroy Park.

The Jimmie women’s and men’s basketball teams will host alumni games at 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively, at Jamestown Middle School.

The Jimmie volleyball team will host Valley City State in a North Star Athletic Association matchup at 7 p.m. in the Hansen Center.

The University of Jamestown Department of Music will present a Homecoming Concert at 7:30 p.m. The Wind Ensemble and Big Orange Pep Band will begin the concert in DeNault Auditorium, and the Chapel Choir and Concert Choir will follow in Voorhees Chapel. A pre-concert reception will take place at 7 p.m. in the Reiland Fine Arts Center Lobby.

An alumni and friends social will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Gladstone. All alumni and friends are welcome to attend.

Saturday, Oct. 12

Saturday begins with the Homecoming 5K Run/Walk at 7:30 a.m. starting from the Larson Sports Center (YMCA). The cost to participate is $15 ($20 day of race) with proceeds going to the men’s and women’s cross country and track teams. Current Jimmie Janes will serve breakfast for Jimmie Jane Alumni at 8:30 a.m. in the Nafus Center.

The Hall of Fame Breakfast begins at 9 a.m. in the Reiland Fine Arts Center Lobby. Athletic Hall of Fame inductees Ida Allen, Steve Hockert, Serenus Hoffner, Gary Mailloux and the 1970 and 1971 men’s tennis teams, plus Rollie Greeno Award recipients Charlie Sizer and Alan Taylor will be recognized. Cost is $8 at the door.

The Street Fair will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Allen Field Commons. Enjoy food, games, arts and crafts while strolling outdoors. Admission is free; costs at each booth may vary.

The Jimmie volleyball team will host an alumni game at 10 a.m. in the Hansen Center.

The University of Jamestown Bookstore will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Jimmie Booster Club will host a tailgate party beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Taylor Stadium parking lot. The Homecoming football game vs. Dakota State begins at 1 p.m. A free chili feed will follow at the Gladstone.

The Jimmie men’s and women’s wrestling teams will host alumni duals at 4 p.m. Meet on Allen Field.

The University of Jamestown Student Media Center is hosting a reception for alumni of the Collegian, Hea Kan and Student Media Center from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Buffalo City Rotisserie Grill. RSVP to slistopa@jc.edu.

The Jimmie volleyball team hosts Dakota State at 7 p.m. in the Hansen Center.

 

The weekend concludes with an alumni golf tournament beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Jamestown Country Club. All golfers, not just Jimmie golf alumni, are welcome. Contact dujensen@jc.edu to participate.
