Plainsong - Alumni submissions due Monday

The deadline for submissions to Plainsong is next Monday, February 15, but as long as submissions are in the files by Tuesday, they will be accepted.

All members of the University of Jamestown community–students, faculty, staff, and alumni–are encouraged to submit their entries:

  • All submissions must be the original work of the entrants.
  • No pseudonymous or anonymous entries will be accepted.
  • To ensure that judging is fair and unbiased, names of entrants will be withheld from the judges (“double-blind” submissions).
  • Entrants may submit up to 5 poems, 2 short stories, and 2 pieces of creative nonfiction (yes, entrants may submit in all 3 of the literary genres as well as both genres of art) and 5 photos or other art.
  • Prose entries must be identified as either fiction or nonfiction and may not exceed 12 pages double-spaced.
  • All borrowed ideas must be properly documented.
  • All manuscripts must be either Word documents or in Rich Text Format (rtf).
  • Editors have the prerogative of editing any work chosen for publication. Students may, if they wish, participate in the editing of their work.
  • Photographs, if possible, should be submitted digitally to the Plainsong folder on the H:/drive; the files should identify the submitter, and may not exceed 5 photos
  • Non-digitized photos and other art work should be submitted to anybody in the English Department.
  • For further information about submitting manuscripts, please contact anybody in the English Department.
  • Alumni, who may not have access to the H:/drive, should contact anybody in the English Department.
  • The Plainsong Editorial Board prefers to use one of the graphic submissions as cover art.
